The Qunari are moving to topple the Tevinter Imperium. Ser Aaron, Vaea, Tessa, Marius and Calix are sent to recover a red lyrium artifact, and Varric points them to Fenris, the elf from Dragon Age II, known in Tevinter as the Blue Wraith. Fenris joins them, but he has his own reasons for coming along.
What this adds if you've played the games
Fenris is the draw here. It's his first real appearance after Dragon Age II, and it shows where he ended up and what he's been doing in the land that enslaved him. It brings the casts of Magekiller, Knight Errant and Deception together, so it reads best after all three. The story continues directly in Dark Fortress.
