Fazbear Frights: Into the Pit
Scott Cawthon, Elley Cooper · 2019
Three novella-length stories about wishes. Oswald, facing a dull summer, finds that the ball pit at a run-down place called Jeff's Pizza can send him back to 1985, when it was a Freddy Fazbear's. Sarah wants to be beautiful. Millie wants to disappear. An epilogue introduces Detective Larson, who's handed a case about an urban legend called the Stitchwraith.
What this adds if you've played the games
If you played the Into the Pit game, this is the story it came from, and it's shorter and nastier on the page. The other two stories aren't tied to the games, but the epilogue is the reason to start the series here: Larson's case runs through the next ten books and keeps pulling in names from Freddy's history. The prose is plain and quick, written for teens. Read this before any other Fazbear Frights book.
Where it fits
- Adapted asFive Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit
The game turns the Fazbear Frights story into a pixel-art adventure, expanding Oswald's trips between today and 1985. Either can come first.
- Adapted asFive Nights at Freddy's: Return to the Pit
Retells Oswald's story as a branching gamebook, starting from the original's midpoint. Read the Fazbear Frights story first so the choices mean something.
- Comes beforeFazbear Frights: Fetch
Larson's Stitchwraith case carries straight on in this book's epilogue, which refers back to Sarah's story from Into the Pit. Read Into the Pit first.
