The last book of the saga opens in another world entirely, where a young knight named Galahad finds Ciri at a lake and asks to hear her story. From there it moves between her account, Geralt's company waiting out the winter far from the fighting, and the war in the North heading toward its final battles.
What this adds if you've played the games
Wild Hunt is built on this book. Avallac'h, Eredin, the Aen Elle and their world all appear here, Ciri's power over time and space comes into focus, and the game assumes you know how the saga ended. You also see Geralt's earlier stay in Toussaint, which Blood and Wine remembers. It's long, it jumps around in time, and it only works after the four books before it, but it pays off more in the third game than anything else Sapkowski wrote.
Where it fits
- Read afterThe Tower of Swallows
The saga's conclusion, carrying on from The Tower of Swallows and resolving what the five novels set up. Read it last of the five.
- Comes afterSeason of Storms
Mostly set years before the saga, but its epilogue jumps ahead past The Lady of the Lake and assumes you know how that book ends. Read the saga first.
- Comes beforeThe Witcher
The first game opens a few years after the saga ends, and its starting premise gives away part of how The Lady of the Lake finishes. Read the novels first if you plan to.
- Ties intoThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The elves of the Wild Hunt, Avallac'h and Ciri's powers all come from the last novel, and the game gives away how the saga ends. Read The Lady of the Lake first if you can.
- Ties intoThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine
An old companion from the saga plays a large part in the expansion, and his story here gives away part of The Lady of the Lake. Read the novels first if you can.
