Andrzej Sapkowski

Andrzej Sapkowski is the Polish writer who created Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher began as short stories in the 1980s, collected in The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, and grew into a five-novel saga running from Blood of Elves to The Lady of the Lake. Decades later he added two prequels, Season of Storms and Crossroads of Ravens. He wasn't involved in CD Projekt Red's games, which carry the story on after the saga ends. If you're coming from the games, start with The Last Wish. It introduces Geralt, Yennefer and Dandelion, and the bargain that ties Geralt to Ciri.
