The war against the Burning Legion comes down to the Well of Eternity itself. Azshara's Highborne are close to bringing the Legion's master into the world, and Malfurion, Tyrande and their allies have to find a way to stop them. Rhonin and Krasus, meanwhile, still don't know whether they can ever go home.

Illidan's choices in this book explain how he's treated for the next ten thousand years, which pays off in Warcraft III and again in Legion. The last third is the strongest stretch of the trilogy.
