World of Warcraft: Vol'jin: Shadows of the Horde
Michael A. Stackpole · 2013
Vol'jin, chieftain of the Darkspear trolls, is left for dead after an assassination attempt in Pandaria. The brewmaster Chen Stormstout carries him to the Shado-Pan monastery in the Kun-Lai mountains to recover, where he finds himself sharing the place with a human soldier. Meanwhile, the Zandalari trolls are moving on Pandaria with an army.
What this adds if you've played the games
It picks up from the in-game scenario where Vol'jin is attacked and sets up the Isle of Thunder patch, and it shows you the Zandalari long before Battle for Azeroth takes you to Zandalar. Chen gets a more serious side. Stackpole writes it as a slow, reflective martial-arts story, which some readers love and others find dull. Read it while you're playing Mists of Pandaria.
