In the Maw, Sylvanas Windrunner holds King Anduin Wrynn prisoner and has to break his will for the Jailer. To do it, she tells him her own story: her family, her years as Ranger-General of Silvermoon, her death at Arthas's hands and the founding of the Forsaken.
What this adds if you've played the games
Her whole life in one book, from childhood with her sisters Alleria and Vereesa to Shadowlands, and it answers most of the questions the games left about why she did what she did. The present-day part runs alongside Shadowlands and gives its later story away, so finish the expansion first. If you only know her as Battle for Azeroth's warchief, the early chapters in Quel'Thalas are a real change of view.
Where it fits
- Ties intoWorld of Warcraft: Shadowlands
Its present-day story runs alongside Shadowlands' campaign and gives away much of it. Finish Shadowlands first.
