id Software is the Texas studio behind Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake, founded in 1991 by John Carmack, John Romero, Tom Hall and Adrian Carmack. It was bought by ZeniMax Media in 2009, which Microsoft acquired in 2021.
On this site it made nearly all of Doom: the 1993 original and Doom II, Doom 3, the 2016 reboot, Doom Eternal with its two Ancient Gods expansions, and The Dark Ages with its Revelations expansion. If you're new to the series, start with Doom (2016). If you want to see where it began, the 1993 game still plays well.
